Meet the founder
Carla L Canada,
Executive Director and Founder of A Place Along the Way is an ex-problem child,
who has turned her life around, with the care of a loving God.
Growing up in a alcoholic household Carla didn't always receive the
nurturing and attention she thought she desired. So, she sought her sense of family outside the home.
What she found was a lot of other teens like her. Running away from life through a bottle, joint, pills or
anything else they could muster.
This life caused Carla to sell drugs, commit crimes and witnessed a multitude of deaths, many of those her own friends. Though the street life proved fierce most of the
time, Carla was loyal to it.. Ultimately, the consequence of this delinquent life-style was years of
incarceration.
Her children taken from her and put in the foster care system. She thought she would never have the opportunity to watch them
grow and assist in their development. She finally opened her eyes to what was truly important in life,
and has turned herself around with the care of a loving God.
She takes a very personal stand in
steering young people away from the life that cost her so many of her precious years, away from
herself and her family.
In essence, Carla believes, there is always hope. A Place Along the Way is
the answer to a long life dream of her’s. With many obstacles in the way she has persevered. She says
that she owes it all to her children,
Dennis J.A. Carr, Shaunte R. Mitchell, Kiya L. Canada,
Tierra Q. Canada and Dylan K. Canada Jr. They are her inspiration.
She also wants to thank all
that have supported her in her endeavor.
